On law websites., lawyers from other parts of India find it difficult to believe that a human rights abuses victim is unable to find a lawyer to get help . However may be because of the Portuguese rule of goa, the level of fear in the state remains high as few are willing to risk their career taking on powerful officials, politicians. A newspaper reported that in a human trafficking case, in which a MLA is allegedly accused, the goa government approached a large number of top lawyers in the state to be the special public prosecutor . However no lawyer was interested in becoming the special public prosecutor for the case, so the government decided that the senior most of the public prosecutors Poonam Bharne will fight the case.
If reputed lawyers are so afraid though the state government is approaching them, then the plight of an ordinary citizen trying to fight legally against powerful officials and their associates, large companies can be imagined.
